    LIMONCOCHA BIOLOGICAL RESERVE

This is a biological reserve located 1 hour 30 minutes downriver from Coca, on the north side of the Napo.  Kichwa native people live in this reserve.

Most of the reserve is a lagoon style landscape that was formed by the ancient course of the Napo River (Oxbow lake).  The region is a mixture of tropical humid forest, secondary forest and gallery forest with easy access from Coca.  Since the reserve area is predominantly a water environment, semi aquatic and aquatic species abound here. Look for some fascinating shorebirds as well many other interesting species.  More than 350 species have been registered here but no observation tower is located in Limoncocha.  You may also see various species of primates including the Red Howler Monkey and the infamous Black Caiman which is common in the lagoon.

This is an excellent trip for the client short of time and who wishes a cheaper birding trip.

Lodge accommodations are available though bathroom facilities are not private.

Altitude:  230 msnm 754.63 feet
